Copyediting & Proofreading
Do you need accurate proofreading and editing?
Nothing can sink your ship more quickly than a glaring misuse of language. Mistakes in grammar or word selection can be disastrous to your ethos because most audiences (and readers) connect such errors with incompetence. They are likely to reason that anyone who misuses language can hardly offer good advice.
A copyeditor's responsibilities are numerous and varied. One responsibility
is to ensure the mechanical accuracy of spelling, punctuation and grammar,
as well as the stylistic consistency of the writing. The copyeditor will query
you when your meaning seems unclear, when information is missing, and when
there are discrepancies between text citations and the reference list. The
copyeditor will not normally question the factual accuracy of the content,
unless the error is obvious. It is the sole responsibility of the original
writer to ensure the accuracy of the content. The copyeditor identifies errors
and notes by adding typesetting codes such as headings, quotations, and displayed
equations. When the edited manuscript is returned, it is considered to be
in its final form and accepted by you for typesetting. Any changes in content
that are made on the typeset proofs will be considered to be author's alterations,
even if you are restoring your original wording. Therefore you need to be
methodical and thorough in reviewing the manuscript and illustrations. The
easiest way to avoid excessive alterations is to prepare your manuscript carefully
and to finalize its content during your check of copyediting.
