Speech Writing

Do you need a well-written speech that has a clear sense of purpose?

Speeches serve to establish standards for action or provide the ethical and moral basis for future arguments. After all, informative speaking shares knowledge, and persuasive speaking affects our audience's attitudes and actions.

"Colors fade, temples crumble,
empires fall, but wise words endure."
Edward Thorndike

How to create a good public speech

1. Choose a subject that is important to you and vital to your listeners.

2. Select a topic that interests you, that you know something about, and what you can bring to life for your audience.

3. Decide on a clear purpose. What would you like your audience to do as a result of your speech?

4. Involve your listeners by asking for their response and relating your topic directly to them.

5. Use testimony, facts, examples, and stories to add substance to your speech.

6. Organize your ideas into a logical design.

7. Use clear, colorful, concrete language.

8. Practice your speech until you can present it smoothly.

9. Be concerned about ethical consequences of your speech.
