Plant Indigenous Trees - Make Africa Green is an eco-friendly concept. A compostable pot, made from recycled cardboard, wood shavings, straw and discarded mulch from wineries combined with natural clays, is supplied pre-packaged with organic potting soil, plus a single tree seed. The recipient follows the relevant planting instructions to grow seedlings; plants can remain in the pot or can be planted directly into the ground, pot-and-all; this revents ground root disturbance while also adding compost to the soil.These 100 per cent biodegradable pots have a high water retention, which assists to keep the roots moist long after watering. • Euclea divinorum. With its good tanning and medicinal properies, its interesting dye composion and great regeneration power Euclea divonorum is a very useful and promosing plant, even growing well in soils polluted with heavy metals. Its bark is considered a high potential tanning material, offering a cheap alternative for black wattle bark in rural pastoral communities. In areas where overexploitation has led to its local disappearance (e.g. in basket weaving centers in Botswana) cultivation is recommended.
• Boscia Albitrunca Tree. Commonly known as Witgatboom, Matoppie or Shepherd's Tree. This trees grows up to 10 metres tall. It is an evergreen tree native to Southern and Tropical Africa, thriving well in the hot, dry and often brackish low-lying areas, sometimes on abundant lime and occasionally found in rock terrain. The Boscia Albitrunca has a prominent, stury white trunk frequently with strips of rough dark coloured bark. The flowers ar small, greenish-yellow, star-shaped and clustered.
• Combretum imberbe Wawra. The semi-deciduous Leadwood tree is found from KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa to Tanzania in the north. It normally grows up to 20 metres tall. Recent radiocarbon fating done in South Africa has established that a Leadwood tree can live up to 2000 years and subsewntly remain standing for years after the tree had died.
• Acacia sieberian var. woodii tree. Also known as Paperbark thorn, it has a magnificent, widely spreading flat crown of deep green, feathery foliage and attractive creamy-tan to yellow-brown corky bark, which makes this an easy tree to identify. The flaky, papery bark peels off in flattish strips, revealing a yellow underbark. Balls of creamy to pale yellow flowers are borne in spring to summer. Paired thorns are strong, straight and white.
