Reading this article in the Sunday Times (http://www.sundaytimes.co.za/2002/09/15/business/news/news01.asp ) makes one wonder how we can all be so blind as to accept political rhetoric at face value. Reading through the article on the present crisis in the Middle East, one becomes aware that it is all really about commerce and oil.

Do you siffer for Logophila? This according to Wordspy is an excessive love of words. The site also cites its source: "There is a disease which consists in loving words too much. Logophilia first manifests itself in childhood and is, alas, incurable. —Peter Ackroyd, "Visions from an addiction to fiction," The Times (London), March 20, 2002

This Web site and its associated mailing list are devoted to recently coined words, existing words that have enjoyed a recent renaissance, and older words that are being used in new ways. An exrtemely interesting site to wander around at http://www.wordspy.com/

Music and Writing? The two provoke one another. Sometimes listening to unfamiliar musical forms- in my case classical and Camille Saint-Saëns - creates new synaptic junctures, new entry points into the creative process. I usually fall asleep to this type of music, but this particular composer seems to tie everything together with an almost ominous undertone to his work. It reminds me of the sea and this again brings me back to the precarious business of online writing. A lot like life in a way, with the flow and ebb of the internet, masses of data, the thrill of actually catching that wave. Maybe my metaphors are getting out of hand, or depth, here, but there is a certain romance in the process of online writing and this is , I think , a necessary element that makes it all bearable.

Researching articles on the Internet and trends is not as easy as it used to be.In fact it gets to be a real pain when one encounters the new internet fad- pay me. We all understand that the old days of dotcom highliving are gone, but one misses that crazed air of free flowing info. However, there are still many sites that offer articles and info for free. If you are looking at up-to-date trends then view the Google Zeitgiest- very interesting to see what people are viewing.

Weblogs may still be new to many. Have a look at
http://www.rebeccablood.net/ for info on weblogs on a site which is also a good example of one.

Beginning this blog was a long time coming. Having looked at the usual formats- blogger.com etc- I decided that we needed something that was not so straightjacketed and advertising centric - . hence this blog is open to discussion, change and chat. Please feel free to send issues for possible publication to gary@imaginet.co.za
