Traditional and contemporary Zulu baskets - known as Ukhambas - traditionally used for storage of beer and grains. The baskets are woven from the Ilala palms and the colors are obtained from natural dyes made from tree bark, berries, leaves, clay, and roots. The patterns on the baskets are symbolic of tribal customs and traditions.
